Using RSS with Mailtraq
Mailtraq's RSS feed from webmail folders makes it simple to send a live summary of email to your RSS news aggregator or to embed your email on your Intranet or your personal web portal such as Microsoft's 'Live' or Google's 'Personalized Homepage'.
The RSS feed is available in Mailtraq Webmail for both Standard and EWA views, but access is dependent on which browser you are using. Firefox and Internet Explorer IE7 are both RSS aware, however IE6 does not recognize RSS.
Once you have accessed the RSS feed for your mail folder you can use that link on any RSS news reader or feed aggregator.
Standard Webmail - Firefox
 When you browse to a Mailtraq webmail folder using Firefox you will see the RSS icon appear in the Address Bar.
Clicking on the icon enables you to add a 'Live Bookmark' which is Mozilla's name for a RSS newsfeed.
Standard Webmail - IE7
 When you browse to a Mailtraq webmail folder using IE7 you will see the RSS icon change from gray to orange in the Toolbar. Clicking on the icon enables you to subscribe to the newsfeed. The Address Box will contain the feed URL that you can use to add this feed to any RSS newsreader or compliant portal.
In Standard Webmail the RSS feed is only from the default 'Inbox'.
EWA (Enhanced Web Access) - IE6 & IE7
EWA Webmail provides a RSS feed on a folder by folder basis, as displayed (sort order, etc).
The Mailtraq RSS icon is displayed within the folder-view, and should not be confused with the IE7 RSS icon in the browser toolbar.

Clicking the RSS icon will open a new window showing that feed, with an option to subscribe.
The Address Box will contain the feed URL that you can use to add this feed to any RSS newsreader or compliant portal.
Configuration Example: Adding a RSS Feed to iGoogle 'Homepage'
A big advantage of RSS feeds is that they enable you to keep up to date with multiple news events from one 'screen' without having to have lots of programs running. Corporate Intranet homepages are a common example.
Google's 'Homepage' provides an easy to access system. To get started, you first need to subscribe to their free Personalized Homepage: www.google.com/ig
You can then easily create your own selection of feeds from the ones offered by clicking the 'Add content' link at the upper-left corner of the Google screen.
You can add your own email feed to the 'Personalized Homepage' by clicking on the 'Add by URL' link (to the right of the [Search Homepage Content] button) and entering the URL that you copied from the Address Box in Mailtraq webmail - described above.
You use a similar technique to add content to Microsoft's 'Live' (where it is called a 'RSS Gadget') or other portal. |
What is RSS?
 RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a web feed format, specified in XML that enables you to embed a summary of the email in a Mailtraq webmail mailbox folder onto a webpage or Intranet page.
The summary includes a link to the original email account in Mailtraq's webmail system.
An RSS feed of email can be aggregated with other feeds into users' News Readers or Virtual Desktops making it easy to keep up to date.
Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and other browsers now include RSS feed facilities so Users can keep up with their email whilst browsing simply by subscribing to their own email RSS feed.
Notes:
RSS is a feature of Mailtraq Webmail. There is no Console entry for RSS.
The RSS feed is updated by Mailtraq in real time, but your RSS newsreader will dictate how frequently it updates the view that you see.
