Mailtraq provides a number of features for managing contact information:

• Local Directory - all Users within the Mailtraq system
• Global Address Book - imported contact list available to all
• Personal Address Books (multiple and shareable) - controllable PABs

in addition to the LDAP service for very large contact bases.
Mailtraq Professional also allows you to automatically update each User's  Outlook Contacts.

Directory

Mailtraq provides a Global Address Book and multiple Personal Address books. The Directory is accessed from the Console via the Options menu.

The Global Address Book is made available to Webmail Users in the 'Contacts' tab. It is also available to Mailtraq Assistant.

Users can synchronize their Outlook Contacts with those in Mailtraq's Directory by using MOS (see here). Contacts can then be accessed by Users in their Outlook's in the normal way.

Users with Administrator priviliges who synchronize their Outlook Contacts will update the Global Address Book, both adding and deleting Contacts.

Mailtraq's Address Book Import Wizard makes it simple to import address books from other programs, such as Outlook and Outlook Express, as well as allowing custom mapping of fields.

Mailtraq Outlook Synchronizer (MOS) enables you to create central Contacts that can be shared with your Outlook clients either as the GAB (Global Address Book) or from shared PABs, as well as being always available via the webmail interface.

 LDAP

The Mailtraq Professional Edition includes an LDAP directory server (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) that allows users with an LDAP capable mail client (such as Outlook) to search the Local Directory for user accounts and e-mail addresses.

With support for additional directory entries, this service is ideal for the large organisation where internal e-mail is commonplace.

You can also use LDAP to search addresses in mailing lists within Mailtraq. This enables you to have a shared corporate email address book containing external contacts' details.

You can set up Mailtraq with any number of LDAP services (on different ports) to offer access to any number of separate lists. LDAP is added to the normal services in the Console at Options | Services.

You can also allow the user to specify which list the LDAP service should map to by using the 'search base' field in the email client. 

The LDAP service is not installed by default - you will need to add it as a service in the Mailtraq Console, at Options | Services . If you are accessing the LDAP service from outside your LAN, be sure to set your router/firewall Port Forwarding correctly.

Configuration

LDAP defaults to providing Local Directory information, but you can also set a Mailing List (created for this purpose with imported users) to be the source.

Most LDAP clients allow you to specify a "Base Object" or "Base DN".  If "Base Object specifies Mailing List" and the given base object matches a mailing list, then the search is applied to the mailing list subscribers.
