TLS SSL Support

Mailtraq Professional 2.14 provides SSL/TLS support for SMTPS, POP3S, IMAPS and HTTPS webmail.

The implementations support both implicit and explicit security, meaning that you can either require a completely encrypted session or offer the client the option to upgrade to a secure session within the transaction.

Mailtraq provides a certificate issuing system producing PKCS#10 requests compatible with all the major certificate authorities.

See Certificate Manager for a discussion of the creation of Secure Certificates.

Adding TLS SSL Services

The SSL-tab will be found on the individual Services Properties dialog, accessed from the Mailtraq Console: Options | Services

Default Ports

Note that the ports used by SSL/TLS services are different from the default service ports.

You use the Service Manager to add these additional TLS services and configure them. You will also need to configure your router/network/firewall routing accordingly.

SMTPS - secure on 465 (plain text 25)

HTTPS - secure on 443 (plain text 80) See: Secure webmail

IMAPS - secure on 993 (plain text 143)

POP3S - secure on 995 (plain text 110)

You will also need to specify that your email clients are configured to use SSL connections on the specified ports. There are numerous third-party guides to setting up Outlook, Thunderbird and other clients.

Configuration Tip

If you have difficulty connecting your client, try swtiching between Explicit and Implicit. Outlook Express, for example, can use Explicit Mode under Windows XP but uses Implicit Mode under Windows 2003
