Coping with 'spam'

Read more about using webmail to train the anti-spam system here

If the system Administrator has enabled the Anti-spam system, in the right-click menu you will find links that allow you to train Mailtraq.  Marking good messages as non-spam, and bad messages as spam will quickly teach Mailtraq about your incoming mail. After a short while you will find it is only necessary to mark a few messages to keep up with the gradually changing nature of spam.

It is simply a matter of selecting emails  and marking them either as 'Learn as spam' or 'Learn as non-spam' from the usual right-click menu.

The system needs to know the type of message you consider normal - 'non-spam' as well as 'spam'. Start by selecting some non-spam, and then some spam messages from your inbox.

Thereafter it is only necessary to correct any mistakes. Spam is normally directed into the 'Deleted items' or 'Junk' folders, and it is prudent to check there from time to time to make sure no messages have incorrectly been marked as spam. The system Administrator has a number of whitelisting options if you find them necessary.

If you mistakenly mark a message spam when it is not - or vice versa - you can use the other choice to correct your error.

If you have several messages that need marking as 'spam' it is most efficient to select them all at once.

Administrators have the option of having system wide anti-spam or allowing Users to configure their own anti-spam.

It is most common to use system wide settings as then all Users benefit from the knowledge of spam that is built up within the anti-spam system.

It the system has been enabled on a mailbox basis, and the Administrator has enabled the anti-spam option in Webmail Admin settings, then the User can configure their own anti-spam settings in webmail from:

Options | Anti-spam
