Multiple domains - more

The basic operation of multiple domains in Mailtraq is straightforward. See here.

Finer control over how mail is filtered into mailboxes is explained below.

Adding a new domain to your mail server is as easy as adding a server  alias.

Before starting make sure that you have a stable and working email system.

In this example the Domains are:
domain1.com
domain2.com
domain3.com

In Console | Options | Server, make sure that the Domain Name is set to be: domain1.com,
then in Domain Aliases and other machine names add, on a new line, the entry:
domain2.com and on another line
domain3.com - and so on.

Mailtraq will now accept mail for both domain1.com and domain2.com and domain3.com

Note that mail is routed to the [user] regardless of the domain name, so that for example mail sent to:

info@domain1.com is sent to the same mailbox as info@domain2.com etc

Configuration Tip:

Having different Users in the different domains saves having to resolve
this issue.

However you would use the  "incoming mail filter" options of the mailboxes for resolve the issue.

This works well for same names on different domains with incoming mail and users getting their mail by POP3.

Set them up like this:
emailaccount>>mailboxname.>>mailboxAlias>>Mailbox filter

info@domain1 >> info1 >> alias info  >> filter info@domain1
info@domain2 >> info2 >> alias info  >> filter info@domain2
info@domain3 >> info3 >> alias info  >> filter info@domain3

By sharing the same alias all 3 mailboxes receive mail for info.
Because of the filter only the right mailbox gets the message.

When you try to make a second mailbox with the same name Mailtraq protests and you will know you have to do the mail filter routine as there is another user with the same name.

Keep the mailboxes in the console in domainname-subfolders so you can easily see which names are used on which domain.

The domain identity of outgoing mail is set by the email client.
